Full mouth rehabilitation

Full mouth reconstruction in Pondicherry

Full mouth reconstruction, also called full mouth rehabilitation, is an individual plan for people with many damaged, worn, missing or failing teeth. Depending on your needs, it may combine several types of treatment, and it does not always involve dental implants or All-on-4.

Is it for me?

When full mouth reconstruction may be considered

It may be considered when problems affect many teeth at once, for example:

  • Many teeth with decay, fractures or large, failing fillings
  • Teeth worn down by grinding, clenching or acid erosion
  • Several missing teeth in one or both jaws
  • Crowns, bridges or dentures that no longer fit or function well
  • Problems with how the upper and lower teeth meet
  • Teeth affected by advanced gum disease

Possible treatments

What a plan may include

Every reconstruction is different. Depending on your examination, a plan may include some of the following. Your dentist will explain which are part of your plan, and why.

  • Gum treatment

Bringing gum disease under control, which comes before most other treatment.
  • Extractions

Removing teeth that cannot be saved, once the options for keeping them have been considered.
  • Root canal treatment

Treating infection inside a tooth so that it can be kept and restored.
  • Fillings and crowns

Repairing and protecting teeth that are decayed, broken or worn.
  • Bridges

Replacing one or more missing teeth using neighbouring teeth or implants for support.
  • Dentures

Removable replacement teeth, either partial or complete.
  • Dental implants

Replacing missing teeth with crowns, bridges or dentures supported by implants.
  • Bite care

Adjusting how the teeth meet, and a night guard if you grind your teeth.

Planning

Planning full mouth rehabilitation in Pondicherry

A reconstruction is planned as a whole before treatment starts, so that each stage supports the next.

  1. 1

    Comprehensive examination

Your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints and any existing dental work are checked, along with your medical history.

  2. 2

    Records

X-rays or a 3D scan, photographs and impressions or scans of your teeth may be taken, as needed.

  3. 3

    Diagnosis and options

The dentist explains what is causing the problems and the options for treating them, with their benefits, limitations and costs.

  4. 4

    A phased plan

Treatment is usually organised in stages, starting with pain, infection and gum health, then rebuilding and replacing teeth.

  5. 5

    Reviews and maintenance

Regular reviews help protect the finished work and catch any problems early.

Time

How long does it take?

Full mouth reconstruction is rarely completed in a single visit. Depending on the plan, it can take several visits over weeks or months, especially when healing time is needed after extractions, gum treatment or implant placement.

Your plan will set out the stages that apply to you. Timings can only be estimated after your examination, and they can change if healing takes longer than expected.

Dental implants

Where dental implants fit in

Implants may be part of a reconstruction when teeth are missing or cannot be saved. When most or all of the teeth in a jaw need replacing, options can include a full-arch bridge on several implants, an implant-retained denture or a conventional denture.

When natural teeth can be restored, keeping them is usually considered first.

Understanding the terms

Full mouth reconstruction and All-on-4: what is the difference?

  • Full mouth reconstruction

A broad, individual plan to restore, repair or replace many teeth. It can use many different treatments, with or without implants.
  • All-on-4

A specific technique for replacing all the teeth in one jaw with a fixed bridge on four implants. When it is suitable, it may be one part of a reconstruction.

Aftercare

After treatment

Reconstructed teeth need the same care as natural teeth, and sometimes more.

  • Brush twice a day and clean between your teeth, and around any implants, every day.
  • Keep regular check-ups and professional cleaning appointments.
  • Wear a night guard if one is recommended for grinding or clenching.
  • Contact the clinic if anything feels loose, sore or different when you bite.
